2021 Advanced Seminar

The JFR 2021 Advanced Seminar will be virtual this year.  The dates are Saturday and Sunday, January 16 and 17, 2021.  The program will start at 8:45 a.m. EDT.  The scholars for the program are Professors Daniel Greene, Benjamin Carter Hett, Sam Kassow, and Paul Salmons.  Professor Greene will present on America’s response to the Holocaust.  Professor Hett will address the Weimar Republic and the road to war.  Professor Kassow will lecture on the Judenrate. Paul Salmons will look at images of Auschwitz from different perspectives.

There are changes to the program.  Our 2021 schedule is pared down to Saturday and Sunday – just two days in the morning. Each scholar is being asked to take one 90-minute block.  In previous years, each scholar did two 90-minute presentations.  The schedule for the program is below.

We are limiting participation to 27 Alfred Lerner Fellows.  Educators and Holocaust center staff, who were to attend the 2020 Summer Institute for Teachers, may also apply to participate in the 2021 Advanced Seminar.  The participant fee is $25.00.  Applications will be sent in a separate email within the next two weeks.  Spots will be filled on a first come, first serve basis.  Applications must be complete – this means that your center must sign off on your application – this can be done remotely, and we need your check.  We are not in a position to accept credit cards. Writing me that you have sent in your application will not hold your spot.  Spots will be assigned based upon receipt of a completed application.  This will be fair to everyone.

If you have questions about the 2021 Advanced Seminar, please email Stanlee at [email protected].

2021 SUMMER INSTITUTE FOR TECHERS & EUROPEAN STUDY PROGRAM

It is our hope that the 2021 Summer Institute for Teachers and the 2021 European Study Program will take place in person.  The 2021 Summer Institute for Teachers is closed. The teachers from the cancelled 2020 program will be participating in the 2021 program. Stanlee will be reaching out to the 2020 participants to confirm their participation in the 2021 Summer Institute and to provide the dates for the 2021 program.  2020/2021 Lerner Fellows should be reading How Was It Possible? A Holocaust Reader by Peter Hayes.

Professor Robert Jan van Pelt and I are looking forward to seeing everyone in Munich, Germany in July 2021.  Information on the 2021 European Study Program will be sent to those who have registered for the 2020 program in several weeks to confirm participation in the 2021 European Study Program. Information on the 2021 European Study Program will be emailed in several weeks should those who did not sign-up for the 2020 program want to participate. 2020/2021 Lerner Fellows can participate in the 2021 European Study Program.  If you are interested in joining us next July, please email Stanlee at [email protected].
