GIVING TUESDAY IS TODAY!

Giving Tuesday is TODAY! As we give thanks this year, let us remember to thank and take care of the men and women who risked their lives to save Jews during the Holocaust – non-Jews who refused to be passive in the face of the evil they witnessed. Now elderly and in financial need, help us to make their Christmas holiday a little brighter. Each December the JFR raises funds to send a special award to our rescuers for the purchase of food at Christmas. Our goal this year is $25,000 – help us reach this goal. Please consider making a gift of $36.00. Click here to donate now.

2021 ADVANCED SEMINAR

The 2021 Advanced Seminar is closed!  I would like to thank everyone who will be joining us virtually in January 2021.  I am pleased that several Alfred Lerner Fellows whom we have not seen since they attended the Summer Institute for Teachers will be attending the 2021 program! Sometimes having a virtual program is a good thing especially for those who do not live close to Newark, NJ where the Advanced Seminar is usually held.

Anna Butova

WE MOURN THE PASSING OF ANNA BUTOVA, CZECH REPUBLIC

The JFR began supporting Anna Butova in January 2000. She died on August 15, 2020, two days after her 92nd birthday.  Over the years, we corresponded with Anna, her children, and her brother. Here is a photo of Anna taken earlier in 2020 and a letter from her family informing us of Anna’s death.  May Anna’s memory be for a blessing.

HEARING FROM RESUERS AND THEIR FAMILIES

Recently we received a letter and photo from Wilhelmina C. from Poland.  The JFR began providing monthly financial support to Wilhelmina in April 1991. Wilhelmina turned 93 in June 2020.

Proof of Life During COVID-19

Annually, each rescuer receiving JFR financial assistance is required to send proof of life documentation.  This documentation includes a notarized affidavit stating that the rescuer is alive. Because of COVID-19 many of the rescuers are quarantined by their governments. As they are not leaving their homes, they are unable to provide a notarized affidavit. The solution we came up with is that each rescuer have a family member take their photo holding the daily newspaper with the date showing.  Here is Rozalia W. from Poland holding a newspaper.

JFR HANUKKAH ECARD

For a donation of $18.00 or more, you can send one of our JFR Hanukkah eCards to up to 10 email recipients.  A JFR eCard is a great way to send Hanukkah wishes to friends and family while at the same time supporting the work of the JFR. Click here to send Hanukkah eCards.

SHOP ON AMAZONSMILE AND SUPPORT THE JFR

As you do your holiday shopping, if you place orders through Amazon, please consider ordering through AmazonSmile and indicate the JFR as your charity. The JFR receives a small portion of the proceeds from every sale made through AmazonSmile when you specify the JFR as your charity.
