2016 Documentary Wins 4 Telly Awards

“Following the Footsteps of My Father” was awarded four Telly Awards! Two Silver Telly awards were given for General History for Non-Broadcast productions and for General Education for Non-Broadcast Productions. Two Bronze Telly awards were given for General Documentary: Individual for Non-Broadcast Productions and for General Not-for-Profit for Non-Broadcast productions. The documentary was first shown at our 2016 annual dinner where Pastor Chris Edmonds accepted the JFR’s Yehi Or Award – Let There be Light on behalf of his late father.

Some information about the Telly Awards. Silver is their highest award. The Telly Awards was founded in 1979, to honor the best in TV, cable, digital and streaming, and non-broadcast productions.

The documentary is also available online through The Jewish Foundation for the Righteous (JFR) website by clicking here. If you have not viewed this documentary, I urge you to do so. The rescue story took place during the Battle of the Bulge.

Meeting the Needs of Rescuers

The JFR is supporting some 400 aged and needy Righteous Gentiles living in 20 countries. They range in age from their 80s to 102! On September 3, 2017, the JFR hosted a luncheon for rescuers living in Warsaw. The luncheon was held at POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews. Our October eNewsletter will have photos from the luncheon.

JFR Education Programs

In June, we welcomed 25 new Alfred Lerner Fellows to our Summer Institute for Teachers which is held at Columbia University. 2017 marked the 18th year of the program, more than 550 master educators have attended the program.  Teachers for the program are nominated by one of our Holocaust Centers of Excellence.

In July, 20 Alfred Lerner Fellows joined Professors Sam Kassow and Peter Hayes as we traveled across Lithuania and Poland. It was an exceptional study program. If anyone would like the reading list for the study program, please email me. While in Lithuania we met with three rescuers supported by the JFR, two of whom are featured in this eNewsletter.

We would like to thank The Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany (Claims Conference) for their support of these two important education programs.
