In July, awards were sent to each JFR-supported rescuer. We would like to share some of the photos and notes we received – click here to see them. They thank you for remembering them and for making their lives easier with the financial help they receive from the JFR.
Dr. Andrew Buchanan (JFR Lerner Fellow 2007) is the JFR’s new Senior Education Program Associate. Andrew received the JFR’s Goldman Award (JFR’s Holocaust teacher of the year award) in 2012. Andrew also participated in the 2010 European Study Program to Germany and Poland and several Advanced Seminars. Andrew taught high school Social Studies in Randolph, NJ public schools where he had a Holocaust elective for 16 years and he taught middle school Social Studies for the last two years. Andrew also taught a graduate program in Holocaust Studies at Kean University. Andrew will be reaching out to our Lerner Fellows over the next several months. Andrew’s email is [email protected].
We are pleased to welcome Andrew to the JFR family!
We have been speaking with Lerner Fellows throughout the summer to learn what their plans are for their Holocaust unit. As expected, plans are varied. A key factor is the length of time each teacher has to spend on the Holocaust. Some have a yearlong elective; others teach the Holocaust for five days. Please let us know your plans for your Holocaust unit – email Andrew at [email protected].
We are in the process of planning for the 2023 Advanced Seminar. Applications will be available in September. We should have our presenters confirmed shortly. The program, which will be in person, will be at the Hilton Newark Airport.
