JFR Dinner at The New York Public Library

JFR DINNER, MONDAY, DECEMBER 3, 2018

We are looking forward to our dinner this Monday evening. The program for the dinner is a special screening of our new documentary Footsteps of My Father. The award-winning documentary tells the story of Master Sgt. Roddie Edmonds and how he saved some 200 American Jewish GIs captured by the Germans during the Battle of the Bulge. In November 2018, the documentary received the Grand Prize for best documentary at the Rhode Island 2018 Roving Eye International Film Festival.

Each year we invite several schools to attend as guests of the JFR.  This year the invited schools include Convent of the Sacred Heart from Manhattan, SAR, an orthodox Jewish day school, from Riverdale, NY, and Livingston High School from Livingston, NJ.

Maureen Carter (Lerner Fellow 2004) will receive the Robert I. Goldman Award for Excellence in Holocaust Education.  Jill Tejeda (Lerner Fellow 2011) and our 2014 Goldman Awardee will be at the dinner with students from her Holocaust elective course.

JFR 2019 ADVANCED SEMINAR

We are gearing up for the 2019 Advanced Seminar and are looking forward to welcoming everyone at the Hilton Newark Airport on January 19, 2019.  The scholars are outstanding!

I have added a new presenter to the 2019 Advanced Seminar program.  Paul Salmons will be coming from London to present on teaching the Holocaust through artifacts and is considered a leading expert in teaching the Holocaust.  Paul is working with the JFR on our Artifact Box project.

We are going to start planning the 2020 Advanced Seminar program shortly.  If you would like to have a specific topic or area addressed or to hear from a particular scholar, please let Stanlee know.

#GIVINGTUESDAY HELPS RESCUERS!

Thanks to the generosity of many, the JFR will be sending each JFR supported rescuer an additional award of $1,500 for the purchase of food, home heating fuel, and medications during the 2018 Christmas holiday.  Thank you for your support of the rescuers!

YOUR UNIT ON THE HOLOCAUST

Please let us know how your unit on Holocaust is going.  Consider sharing what you are doing in the classroom with other Lerner Fellows by writing a piece for the Alfred Lerner Fellows e-newsletter.  If you include photos, please make sure you have permission to share.

SHOP ON AMAZONSMILE AND SUPPORT THE JFR

As you do your holiday shopping, if you place orders through Amazon, please consider ordering through AmazonSmile and indicate the JFR as your charity. The JFR receives a small portion of the proceeds from every sale made through AmazonSmile when you specify the JFR as your charity.

Enjoy your winter holiday!
