NOTES AND CARDS OF THANKS FROM THE RESCUERS

Last month we wrote about our Christmas awards for the rescuers. In December, the JFR sent each JFR supported Righteous Gentile a special award of $1,750 for the purchase of food during the Christmas holiday season, for home heating fuel, and for medications. Here is a link to several thank you letters from rescuers. We thank you for helping to make the holidays a little brighter for these noble men and women.

FOOTSTEPS OF MY FATHER & FOLLOWING THE FOOTSTEPS OF MY FATHER

We continue to receive requests from teachers, community organizations, senior centers, and synagogues to screen the JFR’s award winning documentary “Footsteps of My Father.”  If you are interested in screening the documentary for your class, school, organization, synagogue, and JCC, here is a link to the request form.  If the event is not a fund raiser, there is no charge for screening the documentary.

The Teachers Guide for “Footsteps of My Father” is now available on the JFR website.  Here is a link to the Teacher’s Guide.

JFR’s initial documentary on Master Sgt. Roddie Edmonds, “Following the Footsteps of my Father” is now available on the JFR website.  This documentary is 14 minutes, 23 seconds in length. Click here to view this film.

I would like to thank the following Lerner Fellows for helping with the Teachers Guide that accompanies the documentary “Footsteps of My Father” – Amy McDonald, Maureen Carter, Jill Tejeda, Tawny Anderson, and Marie-Amalie Farris.  And a special thanks to Paul Salmons and Steven Field for their input as well.

JFR 2020 ADVANCED SEMINAR

The 2020 Advanced Seminar was outstanding.  We brought new scholars to the JFR and they were warmly received.  We have invited Professor Stefan Hördler, from Germany, to lecture at the 2020 Summer Institute for Teachers and at the 2021 Advanced Seminar.

A highlight of the program was our trip into New York City with Professor Robert Jan van Pelt to the Auschwitz Exhibition – Not Long Ago. Not Far Away. at the Museum of Jewish Heritage.  If you are in the New York City area and have not been to the Auschwitz Exhibition, I urge you to make time in your schedule.

JFR POSTER SET ON RESCUE

The Jewish Foundation for the Righteous offers a set of classroom posters on the rescue of Jews by non-Jews during the Holocaust. This set conveys a crucial message: that the Righteous are not just heroes from the past, but also role models for the present. The posters underscore this idea by linking individual rescuers to character traits exemplified in their stories – traits that are well-known and within reach to young people. The posters are available in English. A version in Spanish will be available in the spring of 2020.

The JFR Poster Set on Rescue hangs on the walls in many classrooms, Holocaust Museums, and Holocaust centers across the United States.  We thought we would share with you photos of the posters from across the country – click here to see them.

If you know of a teacher who might like the Poster Set on rescue for their classroom, click here to purchase.
