Logan Greene, an 8th grade social studies and English language arts teacher from Berry Middle School in Birmingham, AL, received the JFR’s 2023 Robert I. Goldman Award for Excellence in Education. The award was presented to Logan at the JFR’s 2024 Advanced Seminar. Logan is a 2012 Alfred Lerner Fellow. The Goldman Award comes with a cash prize of $1,000.
In presenting the award to Logan, Stanlee Stahl, JFR’s Executive Vice President said, “Logan’s commitment to teaching the Holocaust is unparalleled. Logan is a talented and gifted educator who makes history come alive – he truly inspires! His dedication flows from his commitment, as an engaged citizen and as a devoted teacher, to ensure that this chapter of history is brought forward. It flows, too from his hope that students will model the ethical behavior of the rescuers and to learn from the past to forge a better future for our society.”
A big thank you to everyone who participated in the Advanced Seminar. Our scholars, Dr. Dave Rich, Dr. Magda Teter, and Dr. Robert Williams were outstanding. If anyone would like to receive the reading assignment for the Advanced Seminar, please let Stanlee know and it will be emailed to you.
The Summer Institute will be held at the Hilton Newark Airport. An email announcing the program was sent to JFR Holocaust Centers of Excellence in January. If you know of a teacher who might want to attend the 2024 Summer Institute, please have the person reach out to your center’s education director.
The 2025 Advanced Seminar is planned and will be held at the Hilton Newark Airport. The dates are January 18-19, 2025. On Sunday, Professor Thomas Doherty, from Brandeis, will present on Hollywood and popular culture. An invitation has been extended to a fourth presenter. If you are interested in attending, send Stanlee an email at [email protected]. Applications for the Advanced Seminar will be emailed at the end of the summer.

We are continuing to receive pictures and thank you notes from the rescuers.
