JFR 2021 ADVANCED SEMINAR

The JFR 2021 Advanced Seminar was outstanding!  It was good to see everyone, if online.  We also kept our tradition of providing chocolate to all participants!  We are beginning to plan the 2022 program.  If you would like to have a specific topic or area addressed or to hear from a particular scholar, please let Stanlee know.

JFR 2021 EUROPEAN STUDY PROGRAM

The JFR will not be offering a European Study Program to Germany and Poland this July.  The program will be held in July 2022. If you are interested in participating, please let Stanlee know.  This gives everyone a little longer to save!

JFR 2021 SUMMER INSTITUTE FOR TEACHERS

A decision has not been made as to whether the 2021 Summer Institute for Teachers will be held virtually or will be cancelled. All participant fees received for the 2020 Summer Institute for Teachers were refunded to either the participant or to the center in 2020.  If you were scheduled to attend the 2020 program that was cancelled, you will be receiving an email from Stanlee with additional information about the 2021 program by the end of February.

POLISH SOCIETY FOR THE RIGHTEOUS

The JFR would like to recognize the important work of the Polish Society for the Righteous.  The Society, which is headed by Dr. Anna Stupnicka Bando, is based in Warsaw, Poland.  Here is a link to Anna’s rescue story.  You can also see Anna in the JFR documentary on Roman Kent by clicking here. For more than twenty-five years, the JFR has worked closely with the Polish Society for the Righteous.  The Society has assisted the JFR in reaching out to JFR supported rescuers living in Poland. We thank the Society for all of their efforts on behalf of the Righteous.

The JFR Mourns the Passing of Urszula Głowacka Plenkiewicz

The Jewish Foundation for the Righteous mourns the passing of Urszula Głowacka Plenkiewicz, a Righteous Gentile from Poland, on Sunday, January 24, 2021, at the age of 99.

Urszula would have been 100 in June 2021. Urszula was imprisoned in Auschwitz.  Click here to read Urszula’s story.

In November 2020, we received the following note from Urszula:

Dear Madam,

I  would like to express my sincere gratitude for all  your support and respect.

I feel truly appreciated.

Krystyna Kowalska, whom I saved, was my true friend we supported each other in those hardest moments.

Your contribution make me feel her soul close to me again.

I am extremely thankful for your financial support.

It will allow me to take my illness with dignity.

Yours sincerely,
Urszula Plenkiewicz

JFR POSTER SET ON RESCUE

The Jewish Foundation for the Righteous offers a set of classroom posters on the rescue of Jews by non-Jews during the Holocaust. This set conveys a crucial message: that the Righteous are not just heroes from the past, but also role models for the present. The posters underscore this idea by linking individual rescuers to character traits exemplified in their stories – traits that are known and within reach to young people. There are about 30 complete poster sets left.  If you know of a teacher who might like a Poster Set on rescue for their classroom, click here to purchase the Poster Set.

There are also partial sets left if you are interested.  Partial sets are reduced in price. Please reach out to Stanlee at [email protected] if you would like a partial set.
